State General Purpose Aid for Education

Posted: January 10, 2013 in Uncategorized

Tomorrow the Governor will release his supplemental budget for the remainder of the curent fiscal year and also will release the biennial budget for the state budget years 2013-14 & 2014-15.  We are in the midst of a prolonged economic downturn which hopefully will finally turn around this year.  I wanted to share with you some information on the State of Maine’s contribution towards education over the past few years.  If the current year curtailment of $12.6 million is approved, the state funding for education will be $897 million 2012-13 and it will be less than the 2006-07 budget year funding of $914  million.  The chart below shows the state of Maine contribution to education since 2006-07.  We anxiously await tomorrow’s announcements to see what the Governors proposed budget will have in it for Maine Students.
