RSU 18 Administrator Receives Wellness Recognition

Posted: October 30, 2014 in Uncategorized

Jennifer McGee , Jenn McGee  Principal of RSU 18’s Ralph M. Atwood Primary School recently was awarded a Ready Award (part of the Let’s Go! Program) for the schools commitment to providing the best possible environment that supports healthy eating and active living. At the Ralph M. Atwood Primary School in Oakland, their Wednesday meetings are an opportunity for the principal and all students in grades Pre-K – 2 to participate in a dance marathon for 40 minutes each week throughout the year. The whole school moves and grooves to a new dance that is taught every few weeks after one is mastered. Students learn different dances led by their principal and a classroom and dance teacher. Also at the school, each class has their own raised bed garden where they grow fruits and vegetables.  They have now added egg laying chickens.  The whole school also includes nature walks into their day on the Atwood Tapley Trails and journal on their findings in the outdoor natural environment.

Help me congratulate Jenny and the Atwood School on this recognition and the good work they are doing to incorporate wellness into every Learners Educational Experience  :>)
